God of War: Ascension Avoids Violence Against Women

Posted on July 20, 2012 AT 04:02am

Sony Santa Monica design manager David Hewitt has revealed that God of War: Ascension will not feature any violence against women at all. Some fans felt that Ascension‘s E3 trailer was a little too violent, and Hewitt addressed these concerns in a recent interview.

“There are some things we’ve pulled back from,” Hewitt said. “I think where this has been an issue is with violence against women–the team’s pulled back from some of that and assessed that a little more carefully.”

“There are certain things that carry a different kind of resonance that we don’t want to get into. This isn’t about statement-making in that regard. It’s about fleshing out this character,” he added.

I think it’s a good move to remove any violence against women, there’s no need to glorify such acts. I realize that sometimes it’s needed for artistic effect, however if Santa Monica doesn’t feel that it can include it without offending people, then it’s best that it just leaves it out altogether. It shows a real maturity on its part to be willing to make such a decision.
