Recent comments from an EA executive about the unpopularity of linear games—in response to the closure of Visceral Games and cancellation of its untitled Star Wars project—did not sit well with the director of the upcoming God of War.

Speaking at a Technology, Media & Telecom conference, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen discussed the publisher’s reasoning behind reevaluating Visceral’s promising Star Wars project after closing the studio.

“As we kept reviewing the game, it continued to look like a much more linear game [which] people don’t like as much today as they did five years ago or ten years ago,” Jorgensen said. “It was an economic decision at the end of the day.”

God of War game director Cory Barlog adamantly disagrees with this perspective, calling EA’s statement “utter nonsense” in a post on Twitter.

Some fans had their own input on the matter, to which Barlog responded with equal gusto.

EA has had no better luck communicating its way through the current Battlefront II scandal. Not long after assuring investors that the pre-launch axing of Battlefront II‘s purchasable currency would not effect company stocks, EA saw a $3.1 billion drop in stock value. Jorgensen’s recent comments that cosmetic unlocks in Battlefront II‘s loot boxes would violate Star Wars canon were also somewhat undermined by a leak showing off locked character customization in the game.

Maybe EA should just stop talking for a bit.
