God of War

A new God of War-themed adventure game, titled A Call from the Wilds, uses Facebook Messenger to take fans on an adventure with Atreus through events preceding his appearance in the upcoming PS4 game.

The game operates similarly to older text-based adventure games. To unfold the story, the player must input commands like “pick up [object]” or “go [cardinal direction]”. The game seems to support a broad array of command options, even intuitively responding to off-script requests like telling Atreus to shoot his mother with a bow.

The adventure through which we accompany Atreus takes place prior to the events of the new God of War, before the death of the boy’s mother. The narrative of the Messenger game seems primarily pulled from a recent story video, during which we experience Atreus’ first trip into the woods alone, where he discovers he may have a special gift. Playing through the game will reward players with up to eight pieces on art based on the adventure, such as the one below.

It has been a long time coming, but fans recently learn that God of War‘s PlayStation 4-exclusive launch will land on April 20th. For everything else we know, think we know, and want to know on the game, check out EGMNOW’s complete guide to God of War.

Nick didn’t start gaming until mid-2006. Once his parents finally allowed a console into the house, it was all uphill from there. Starting out with a PS2, he grew an affinity for Sony consoles and moved on to the PS3, and now the PS4. He keeps his gaming palette wide, but, gun to his head, he’d have to say shooters are his genre of choice. Find him on Twitter @idole808
