God of War

Santa Monica Studio’s earlier reluctancy to reveal the upcoming God of War‘s release date had fans feeling like the game would never see the light of day, but our patience paid off, as the game has finally gone gold.

God of War‘s gold status was announced in a PlayStation blog post by game director Cory Barlog, celebrating the hard work the development team and publisher Sony put in. There is something a little ironic about Barlog thanking Sony for its support when the publisher almost denied the director’s request to make the new God of War, but the acknowledgement is no doubt expected of him. The blog post was accompanied by a behind-the-scenes video of how the development team created the cinematic experience of God of War in a single shot.

Santa Monica Studio recently held a preview event for God of War, and given how close the event was to the announcement of the game’s gold status, what we were playing was likely the finished product. Tons of new information on the game came out of the event, such as difficulty details, the possibility of a photo mode, and more. EGM was one of the lucky outlets that got a chance to try the game, which we discuss in our official preview.

God of War is less than one month away, launching on April 20th, exclusively for the PlayStation 4.

Nick didn’t start gaming until mid-2006. Once his parents finally allowed a console into the house, it was all uphill from there. Starting out with a PS2, he grew an affinity for Sony consoles and moved on to the PS3, and now the PS4. He keeps his gaming palette wide, but, gun to his head, he’d have to say shooters are his genre of choice. Find him on Twitter @idole808
