God of War isn’t out just yet, but the reviews that hit last week have the game rated higher than any other that launched first on PS4.
God of War is currently sitting on MetaCritic with an staggering 95 out of 100 aggregate score, with the game’s 86 different critic reviews all landing in the “positive” range. The game’s ranking is similarly noteworthy on OpenCritic, where the game also boasts a “Mighty” score of 95, with 72 reviews rating it 84 or higher.
These numbers are impressive, but even more amazing is that these scores make God of War the console’s best reviewed game. Now, technically, the PS4 games Grand Theft Auto V and The Last of Us Remastered do have scores equal to or higher than God of War, but as they were originally launched for PS3, they arguably shouldn’t be counted in the same category as games that came first to PS4.
EGM is in the same boat as basically every other review, having been swept away by God of War‘s quality. Our review hails the game as a risk that seriously paid off, stating “if it isn’t perfect, it’s damn near close.”
God of War launches on April 20th, exclusively on PlayStation 4. Those that get the digital version of the game can get a jump on its download, starting April 17th, ensuring that it is ready to play as soon as it launches.
