God of War

The latest God of War story trailer finally (finally!) announces the game’s release date, and it looks like developer Santa Monica Studio made its promised early 2018 launch window after all.

The expedition which Kratos undertakes with his son has been largely shrouded in mystery thusfar, but the new trailer reveals that the purpose of their travel, at least at the outset, is to spread the ashes of the boy’s deceased mother. Many believed the woman in the E3 2017 trailer to be the boy’s mother, but this woman’s role in the duo’s journey confirms that she is just another supporting character they meet along the way.

The pair encounter numerous mythological characters and icons over the course of the trailer, as we learn more about the impact that Kratos’ past has on their adventure and his relationship with his son. Many of these beings help them on their way—such as Mímir, the severed head of the smartest man in Norse mythology—but even more beings will try to stand in their way, whom Kratos must fight against without revealing his true nature to his son.

God of War will officially release on April 20th, 2018, exclusively on PlayStation 4.
