Pop Quiz: What’s the only thing in entertainment more gory than a Saw film? If you guessed God of War, you should probably be working on the screenplay that’s currently in the works for a brand-new Kratos adventure.
Even though a God of War has in Production Hell for enough time to pronounce it on life support, Saw writers Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are reviving the movie adaption. It’s true, and I’m a little scared of the outcome.
Hollywood Reporter has the dirty details on what qualifies these guys to put pen to paper on Sony’s flagship series:
Melton and Dunston made their names writing four installments of the Saw horror franchise. To branch out, they wrote a spec called Monstropolis that was well-regarded and caught the attention of the makers of Pacific Rim. Their work with Guillermo del Toro on Rim has now set them on the action tentpole path.
All things considered, I think that this probably won’t be as bad as one might think. Of course, I’d feel a lot better if they had a director and producer that could faithfully reproduced large scale visual effect like Jerry Bruckheimer, but what can you do?
If they stay true to the series’ violence and sexual content, though, it’s easily an NC-17 film. Don’t bet on them going that far, though.
