Santa Monica Studio is already laying a foundation for a sequel to the new God of War before the initial game is even out.
At a recent God of War preview event, YouTube channel Jagat Review interviewed community strategist Aaron Kaufman about the new God of War and the series’ future beyond it. Approximately 6 minutes into the video, the interviewer asks if the God of War series will stick with Kratos, or if it is free to branch off to other characters. Kaufman explains that the series is still very much about Kratos and his son, elaborating that the studio has ideas of what it wants to do with the series, which is, for now, staying in the Norse universe. This reiterates a similar sentiment presented by game director Cory Barlog in November of 2016.
Kaufman prefaces these comments by stating that the future of the series is technically undetermined, but fans now have an idea of the studio’s intentions. The full interview can be found below.
EGM was also at said preview event, during which we got to experience the first few hours of the game. The new combat system and camera perspective definitely threw us for a loop, which we discuss in our official preview. We also got to see the game’s conflict between father and son up close, which is something that is touched on in the game’s new TV spot.
God of War is launching April 20th, exclusively on PlayStation 4.
