God of War players are about to get some extra content.
As Sony president Shawn Layden confirmed during PlayStation’s E3 event today, a new game plus mode is going to be added to God of War for players who’ve already beaten the game to have another go.
We don’t know anything about how this new game plus mode will work, but it may not be the sort of standard new game plus modes we’re used to seeing in RPGs. Back in March, game director Cory Barlog stated that there would be many things to do after completing God of War, but claimed that it would be “something a little different.”
“It’s more like keep playing when you finish because there is so much stuff we put in beyond the main journey!” Barlog wrote in a Tweet at the time.
These two statements seem to be contradictory, so it will be interesting to see if Barlog has changed his mind in the past few months—or, perhaps, if the new game plus mode will be something very unconventional. Usually, new game plus modes let players keep some resources from their previous adventure in the form of currency, stats, or gear, then pit them against more difficult enemies than the standard game. Perhaps the “different” idea will mean that God of War changes up this formula somehow.
God of War is currently out on PlayStation 4. There’s no word yet when any updates may arrive.
