GOG Offering Free Games to Anyone Furloughed Due to Government Shutdown

If you’re a federal employee who’s been furloughed as a result of the government shutdown in Washington, GOG.com wants to make it right. No, they’re not going to march into the Capitol building and start punching members of congress until the partisan bickering stops and you can go back to work, but they’re offering the next best thing: free games.

As part of a special promotion, anyone who sends an email with a photo of themselves holding an official furlough letter will be gifted a collection of classic PC games specifically chosen to commemorate our latest national embarrassment. Included are some politically and financially themed games—Tropico ReloadedThe Guild: Gold EditionAlpha Centauri, Capitalism Plus, and Capitalism 2—as well as Theme Hospital, to help elucidate the current debate over health care reform. Finally, “for reasons entirely unrelated to who may or may not have been involved in shutting down the US Government,” the set includes Redneck Rampage.

Disappointed you’re not on furlough? Even if you’re still earning a paycheck, you can still get in on all the topical fun, since the full suite of shutdown-themed games is on sale to the general public for 50% off until 6 a.m. Pacific time tomorrow.
