Google will no longer list free-to-play games that are supported by in-app purchases as “free” in its Google Play store in accordance with new EU rules.
The European Commission recently announced that ”games advertised as ‘free’ should not mislead consumers about the true costs involved.” As a result Google has revealed, according to an Engadget report, that it will be altering the way the free-to-play games are listed on its Google Play store. From September any game that is supported by in-app purchases will no longer be listed as “free” in accordance with the EU’s recommendation.
Google will also implement targeted guidelines for games to prevent them from encouraging children to make in-app purcahses, and will also monitor for breaches of EU law.
