Red Dead Redemption

As hinted at by developer Rockstar Games back in May, Red Dead Redemption 2 is getting some more love from GTA Online in the form of a second unlockable weapon, according to dataminers who recently dug into the latter’s recent After Hours update files.

Just like the double-action revolver challenge, the completion of which unlocked the weapon in both GTA Online and Red Dead Redemption 2 (when it launches), the stone hatchet challenge will require players to both earn the weapon and then use it if they want to find it in their Red Dead inventories.

In order to unlock the stone hatchet weapon in GTA Online, players must complete 5 bounties for Maude and, in exchange, will receive the location of the stone hatchet. After you’ve scooped up the weapon, you must get 25 kills to unlock the weapon in Red Dead Redemption 2 plus a GTA$ bonus in GTA Online. Making this task a little easier is the stone hatchet’s Rampage ability, which makes players more impervious to damage while regenerating health faster.

Completing the last challenge earned players GTA$250,000—not a bad paycheck for a day’s work. We’re expecting a similar payoff at the end of this blood-soaked rainbow. This challenge should be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, even though Rockstar has yet to officially announce a PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2, despite a wealth of evidence suggesting that it’s in the works.

Rockstar hasn’t announced when the challenge will go live, though expect it to pop up on your in-game phone in the next few days.

Considering GTA Online‘s last RDR2-related challenge happened back in December 2017, we aren’t expecting too many more of these before the highly anticipated western launches on October 26th. In the meantime, you can preorder one of the two Red Dead Redemption 2 official guides, which will include a walkthrough, treasure maps, and more gameplay information to make your travels through the wild west a little more manageable.

GTA Online is available on Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4, and right now PS4 players can log on without a PS Plus account until August 6th.
