Guild Wars 2 Community Team Takes a Stand on Racist Comments and Hate Speech

ArenaNet has decided to take a stern approach to hateful and racist comments in Guild Wars 2‘s general chat by suspended players found guilty of it without warning.
Usually MMOs are policed by automatic systems where certain words are simply filtered out of the chat, however the Guild Wars community team is seeking out hateful comments and slapping a three day ban on players. An online support representative took to Reddit in order to explain the developer’s reasoning behind the ban system.
“To keep Guild Wars 2 a pleasant place to be, we take action against racist names, hate speech, and other unacceptable behavior,” the representative said. “We have suspended some accounts involved in the use of offensive character names or inappropriate chat. The number of account blocks is miniscule: less than .001% of our total player base.”
In response to the statement several banned players decided to give up their in-game names and ask what they were banned for, the rep then proceeded to post the exact statements they all go banned for, and believe me they are not pretty. We’re not going to post them here, but you can head over to the post on Reddit if you really want to know.
