THE BUZZ: 343 Industries has released a new developer diary for Halo 4, offering a glimpse at some gameplay footage.
The diary discusses what the team plans to achieve with their own Halo trilogy that begins with Halo 4. They are going to develop Master Chief more as a character by using items already discussed in other media such as the novels.
“It’s faster paced and more intense in terms of the immersiveness of the experience and just the overall visceral-ness of the experience – that’s been a real focus for our team,” said 343 creative director Josh Holmes at the recent Microsoft Spring Showcase in San Francisco. ”When you look at Halo games throughout the series they’ve changed pretty substantially in terms of the pace of play. Halo Reach is much slower and more methodical than Halo 3. What we wanted to do is push the balance back towards a faster paced combat feel.”
EGM’s TAKE: First we get new screenshots, now a video! We’re suffering from a Halo geek out at the moment. From the little footage shown it appears that 343 hasn’t gone to crazy with changes and is staying true to the franchises roots as promised. It seems that story and lore will play a much larger role in this trilogy, with more of Master Chief’s past and personality being revealed than in previous games.
