Halo Level Artist Comments On Bungie’s ‘Destiny’ Easter Egg In Halo: ODST

Back when information about Bungie’s upcoming “Destiny” project started to leak, fans thought they may have found a Destiny tease in Halo: ODST. As more confirmation of the connection comes out, a member of the Halo development team has commented on the easter egg.
As part of a set of documents that were leaked earlier this week for Bungie’s Destiny project, we know that as a part of the game, “A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it’s here for, but only that it’s our protector.”
We can see the relationship between the planet and this strange alien ship in one of the images that hit the internet, as shown above. Hmm… haven’t we seen that somewhere before? Indeed we have—in Halo: ODST, a game released way back in 2009:
Now, let’s be clear: this isn’t some sort of new revelation. The image from ODST was found earlier this year, so we’ve known about the easter egg for a while now. One of the people who doesn’t seem to realize that this was already known, however, is VicDeLeon, a level designer for Halo who previously worked at Bungie, and who now works at 343 Industries.
When somebody brought the image up to DeLeon late yesterday, he replied with the following:
So yeah, this isn’t breaking news for everybody, but some of you out there might not have known about the connection. Plus, it’s cool for somebody who was at Bungie during the development of Halo: ODST to make a comment on the find—and cool that the team put a hint for their next project into a game, when people wouldn’t understand the connection until years later.
