Happy 15th anniversary Nintendo 64

THE BUZZ: 15 years ago today, Nintendo released the Nintendo 64 here in North America. The system, originally codenamed “Ultra 64″ and “Project Reality”, was touted as being 64-bit, in a world where its competition—the Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn—were only 32-bit. (Remember the days of a console being “X-bit”? It’s something younger gamers probably know absolutely nothing about.)
Nintendo also made a controversial decision for the platform: Instead of going with CD-based games like its competitors, it continued to push the cartridge format. While it gave the N64 a huge advantage in terms of load times, it also meant that games for the console were often more expensive, as well as visual and audio assets had to be compressed more than games crafted for CD.
EGM’s TAKE: I’ll be honest—I bought an N64, a copy of Mario 64, and ended up not at all liking either one. I only had a few N64 games during the time that I owned it, with most of my attention going to the wrestling games that Japanese developer Aki created (such as Wrestlemania 2000).
But, I want to hear from you! What games did you love on the N64, and what did you think about the console?
