Harmonix reportedly canned an Xbox One Kinect title in development last year

Posted on January 20, 2014 AT 11:26am

Harmonix reportedly began development on an unannounced Xbox One Kinect title that was cancelled by the end of 2013, according to former senior designer Rob Stokes’ LinkedIn profile.

As spotted by Kotaku contributor Superannuation, the most recent work experience listed in Stokes’ online CV lists him as a senior designer at Harmonix Music Systems from December 2012 through December 2013. In that time, Stokes “designed levels and did story development for an unannounced Xbox One Kinect title, which was eventually cancelled.”

Prior to this mystery project, Stokes contributed conversation scripts for Harebrained Schemes’ Shadowrun Returns, served as design lead and writer on Halo 3, and handled mission design for Halo 2 (according to Stokes, he is responsible for four of the thirteen single-player missions), and worked on Blizzard’s evanescent Titan project.

Given Stokes’ line of experience—handling story work for single-player campaigns tied to sci-fi and fantasy projects—it seems likely that this lost Harmonix project might have been similar in that sense (though, of course, wildly different in terms of gameplay, considering its supposed Kinect focus).

Harmonix is currently wrapping up development on Fantasia: Music Evolved, a music-rhythm game for Xbox 360 and Xbox One set to launch sometime this year.
