Blizzard has announced that Hearthstone‘s next expansion will be The Witchwood.
“Dark magic has twisted the creatures of the forest and set them loose upon the Gilnean capital in Azeroth, but King Genn Greymane and his lycanthropic subjects won’t make for easy prey,” the developer explains. “The citizens of this proud kingdom, who can shapeshift into ferocious wolf-beasts known as worgen, are bringing the fight to The Witchwood with tooth and claw—and soon, Hearthstone players will join the pack and help them face down the horrors within.”
The expansion will introduce 135 new cards that feature the new “Echo” keyword. Cards with this new keyword can be played over and over again as long as the player has enough mana.
As well as new cards, The Witchwood includes a new type of game mode called Monster Hunts. Monster Hunts will be unlocked two weeks after the expansion launches and are described as a “thrilling new single-player Hearthstone experience that will send players deep into The Witchwood to stamp out the evils that lurk within.” More information will be shared in the coming weeks.
The Witchwood is scheduled to launch in April for PC, iOS, and Android, and players can pre-purchase a special 50-pack bundle that includes 20 bonus packs and the “In a Dark Wood” card back for $49.99.
