Here are your free PlayStation Plus titles for August

Posted on July 30, 2014 AT 10:58am

It’s almost August, and that means another round of free games will soon be available to all PlayStation Plus subscribers. Here’s what you’ll have to look forward to.

First up is the PlayStation 4, getting the brand new release Road Not Taken. I’ve had the chance to play a bit of the game, and it’s a cute little puzzle adventure for those looking for something different. Speaking of different, your second PS4 game is Fez, the indie hit that mixes platforming and action with some read brain-bending challenges.

Then we head over to the PlayStation 3, where the two options we’re presented both play out in first person, but couldn’t be more different from there. Crysis 3 is of course the latest in Crytek’s well known Crysis franchise, bringing some rather impressive visuals to Sony’s console. Proteus, your other choice, is also known for its visuals, but that’s because the procedurally generated journey looks like a mix of the Atari 2600 and modernist paintings.

Last but certainly not least is the PlayStation Vita, kicked off by the about-to-be-released indie platformer Metrico. I’d best describe Metrico as an adventure through the powerpoint presentation of some random executive. (Trust me, it’s far cooler than it might initially sound.) Rounding out the system’s offerings is the Vita version of Dragon’s Crown, letting gamers everywhere take the fantastic arcade-styled RPG from Atlus and Vanillaware on the go.

Ah, but we mustn’t forget the benefits of cross-buy! Getting Fez will also net you the PS3 and Vita versions of the game, while both Road Not Taken and Proteus also include the Vita versions. So, really, you’re getting two PS4 games, three PS3 titles, and five downloads for the Vita. Not a bad month.

Finally, don’t forget to snag all of the free PS Plus titles from July if you haven’t already. And remember: you don’t need the systems themselves to get the games if you pick them up from Sony’s web store. You might not have a Vita or PS4 just yet, but should you get one in the future, you’ll already have a great selection of games waiting for you.
