Fortnite: Battle Royale‘s major map update will go live tomorrow, January 18th, Epic Games has confirmed.
The update overhauls the map with the addition of 10 new areas, including a new city and an underground mine, and the introduction of biomes that will give each area of the map its own unique look. Check out some of new areas being added in the trailer below:
As well as the new map, the update also offers Battle Pass owners a tier bonus going into season three, adds voice chat to the lobby, removes the Scoped AR from Supply Drops, adds effects when entering and exiting water, and makes it so players now interact with grass and foliage as they walk through it.
There’s also a number of performance improvements for both console and PC players, including an increase in overall frame rate by optimizing how player animation and footsteps are handled, a removal of certain hitches caused by items, and the introduction of the new level streaming technology. This new tech loads the world on-the-fly as players move around leading to improved frame rate, improved loading times, and greatly reduced instances of hitching.
Finally, the update adds two extra daily item slots to the Item Shop and replaces the Weekly Item Shop with a new Featured Item Shop that will update twice a week.
