Hideo Kojima Talks About Upgrading Silent Hill With MGS5′s Fox Engine

Posted on August 16, 2012 AT 11:02am

Hideo Kojima is a fan of the Silent Hill games, but they’re frankly not quite as scary as they used to be back in the day. In fact, one could argue that the series hasn’t been truly terrifying since Silent Hill 2—but Kojima says that could change if future games were upgraded with the same technology that’s behind Metal Gear Solid 5, the Fox Engine.

Metal Gear Solid‘s creator talked about the possibilities on his Twitter feed:

“Silent Hill” movie that I borrowed from Murashu as the next sequel is coming out. It would be a scary game if we make Silent Hill game on FOX engine.!(◎_◎;) http://t.co/Oewm6bZb

Kojima also speculated about how Silent Hill‘s game design isn’t a graphics intensive project, meaning that more technology could be pumped into the purposely-limited gameplay. In short, since the Silent Hill games aren’t quite as broad as other titles, a high-tech expansion would be relatively simple.

“Silent Hill” is in closed room setting and doesn’t require full action so that we can focus on the graphic quality. Enemy doesn’t have to be a lot or move fast. It only requires scariness by graphics and presentation. As being a creator making action game in open world, such game is very enviously attractive. Wish someone could create this on FOX engine.

Kojima will be unveiling the Fox Engine in some unspecified event on August 30th, and we’re hoping against all hopes that it’ll include some information about the next big Metal Gear Solid installment. Because we’re optimists, we guess.
