Hironobu Sakaguchi to reveal new project at next week’s Japan Expo in Paris

Posted on June 27, 2014 AT 02:45pm

Final Fantasy creator and current Mistwalker head Hironobu Sakaguchi hasn’t worked on an RPG since The Last Story on Wii (released in 2011 in Japan and 2012 in North America), but it looks like we’ll soon find out about his next big project. Japan Expo Paris has announced that Sakaguchi will make an appearance there next week on Wednesday, July 2nd, to “present his latest project, which is kept secret for the time being.”

Rumors have swirled in the past few years about possible follow-ups to the three Mistwalker RPGs on the previous generation of consoles—Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, and The Last Story—so this announcement could be related to any of those properties. With a distinct lack of upcoming Japanese RPGs on the PS4 and Xbox One, however, any new-gen project from Sakaguchi would certainly be welcome.
