THE BUZZ: For the upcoming PlayStation 3 “Extended Cut” of Sega’s campy grindhouse-inspired light gun game House of the Dead: Overkill, the game will let players jump into the zombie-blasting action via the magic of 3D.
Sure, you can use that new-fangled stereoscopic 3D that all of those fancy HDTVs seem to have nowadays, but you can also go old-school with two retro 3D modes. If you’ve got the proper glasses to enjoy the 3D-goodness, the game will support both the Red-Cyan style of 3D (the classic specs with one red lens and one blue lens that I’m sure we’re all familiar with), as well as the Green-Magenta variety of 3D glasses.
EGM’s TAKE: PS3 owners who pick up the game at launch in Europe (October 28th) will get two free pairs of paper 3D glasses while supplies last. Meanwhile, for those of us here in the States, when we buy the game on October 25th we’ll get… zero pairs of glasses. At least, the official Sega blog where this news comes from lists no sort of deal for us here in North America.
Free glasses or no, I’m quite happy to see Sega add a fun little extra like this to House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut. It totally fits in with the style and attitude of the game, which was already a great homage to the earlier days of the film genre.
