This Is How You Can Transfer PS1 Games To Your PS Vita, Hack Free

Even though it’s nice that the PlayStation Vita finally has PSone Classics support, many users aren’t really happy with the complicated transfer methods and limited titles. However, those same people found an amazing loophole.

Although North American PS Vitas are only supporting nine PSone Classics right now, NeoGAF is documenting a transfer method that’s worked for over 80 different PS1 titles:

  • Turn on your PlayStation 3
  • Find the PSOne title you want in the PlayStation Store.
  • Download that game, whether or not it’s already on your PS3.
  • Do NOT install it on your PS3 hard drive. Leave the game in the pre-install “bubble.”
  • Turn on your PlayStation Vita
  • Select the following options in the system menus: Content Manager » Copy Content » PS3 System » PS Vita System » Applications » PlayStation » ‘Applications Downloaded on the PS3 System.’
  • Find your game, select it, and copy the file.

(If you also want to preserve your save files, just select ‘PS3 System » PS Vita System’ to copy them over.)

Best of all, it doesn’t require any hacking knowledge, so you’re not voiding your warranty or messing with the firmware to take advantage of the trick. However, you might want to be cautious about updating your PS3 or PS Vita system software any time soon, since it wouldn’t be a surprise for Sony to shut this down with a stealth patch.

There’s a massive list of games that this workaround supports, which thankfully includes Castlevania: Symphony of the NightBreath of Fire IVFinal Fantasy VIGrandia, and Suikoden II.

Check out NeoGAF’s thread for the full list and updates on compatible titles.

As noted by forum user “RyougaSaotome” today, the method also works for the Japanese PSN Store.
