God of War‘s commercial and critical success were no secret following its launch, but some new analyst reports put these numbers into crazy perspective.
The latest NPD report for the month of June 2018 put God of War in second for most copies sold, right behind Mario Tennis Aces and right above Grand Theft Auto V. It may not initially sound too impressive that God of War just beat out a 5-year-old game, but considering GTA V continues to be one of the best selling games in history, the achievement is nothing to scoff at.
While the sales in June were strong, God of War‘s sales in the month following its release were staggering. According to the analyst outlet SuperData, God of War pulled in over $131 million in its first month, and that’s in digital revenue alone!
God of War‘s impressive sales achievements don’t stop there. The game was already the PS4’s fastest-selling exclusive title and PlayStation’s best-selling exclusive title, but according to NPD analyst Mat Piscatella, it has now combined these records to become the fastest selling PlayStation exclusive game since tracking began in 1995, beating out The Last of Us as the previous record holder.
A bit you may have missed yesterday – “after three months God of War, according to NPD data, is actually the fastest selling PlayStation exclusive since tracking began in 1995” https://t.co/UAxG95gHQl

A recent earnings release from Sony held even more good PlayStation news. According to that report, the PS4’s total sales have surpassed those of the PS3 at the end of its generation, putting the PS4 over two years ahead of it predecessor.
