Igloo Gaming Dome Offers 360-Degree Visual Immersion

UK-based projection specialists Igloo demonstrated so-called “portable” gaming dome during this year’s Gadget Show Live at the NEC Birmingham.

Six meters in diameter and displaying 270 degree field of vision within the dome, Igloo demonstrated the gaming device—which uses a bespoke weapon and tracking system to seamlessly map a player’s turns—with Crytek’s Crysis 3. The sphere projects a 2-meter high image wrapped around the 360-degree screen.

The company’s 360-degree igloos are geared more toward education, providing an immersive learning experience within its shell—for example, plotting a route through the solar system. But according to the Igloo brochure, 360-degree gaming is listed among the structure’s purposes.
