Injustice

Netherrealm Studios has started sending out the first wave of invites to the Injustice 2 beta.

The launch of the closed beta was announced on the most recent Watchtower livestream on Twitch, with codes going out to those who signed up previously. Ed Boon also repeated the news on Twitter for those not watching the stream live.

The beta will include online play and a grand total of four playable characters, but Netherrealm didn’t specify which four characters made the cut for the roster, though given the characters shown on the stream, it appears Batman and Atrocitus will be two of them.

The new gear system is also going to be on full display during the beta, with new gear being rolled for both the winners and the losers of each match to allow beta participants to test out the customization fully. Five loadout slots will be available for each character, allowing you to easily swap between different setups.

This includes the two new ability slots, which let you add or replace special moves on a particular character. The example given on stream was Batman’s Air-to-Air Batarang, which replaces the Scatter Bomb special for players who want to improve Batman’s zoning abilities. More powerful gear will sometimes require both ability slots to equip, so you’ll need to plan carefully.

If you didn’t make it into this first wave of the beta, Ed Boon said to rest assured that the beta will be growing in the coming days, so don’t be disheartened. Check your inbox to see if you’ve made the cut.

There’s no word yet on when the beta will be wrapping up.

Injustice 2 arrives on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 May 16th.
