The upcoming Ratchet & Clank HD collection isn’t the only thing fans of the series will have to look forward to this year, as today Insomniac Games announced Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault.

“But we’ve also heard a lot of community requests to develop a new Ratchet & Clank game, one that returns to the classic third-person Ratchet & Clank camera,” Insomniac Games CEO Ted Price said today on the official PlayStation Blog. “We listened to your requests, and this holiday season Insomniac will release our new Ratchet & Clank game as part of our 10th Anniversary Celebration.”

Coming exclusively as a download via PSN and the PlayStation Store, Full Frontal Assault will be a “fun-sized Ratchet adventure” which promises to bring more of that classic Ratchet & Clank feel back while also “innovating and giving you a whole new way to play”. Price also notes that the game will have some sort of online multiplayer mode, but doesn’t explain yet what exactly that will be.

Also, when asked about overall game size/scope for the game, company rep James Stevenson had this to say:

“It’s closer to [Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty] than [Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time], but it will be more replayable than either of those games!”

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault will launch later this year.
