Install Grand Theft Auto V ‘Play’ Disc to USB on Xbox 360 to Avoid Texture Issues

A few days ago Rockstar warned Xbox 360 players not to install Grand Theft Auto V‘s play disc as it would lead to reduced performance, but now there is a way to avoid listening to your jet engine Xbox 360 running the disc.

The folks over at Digital Foundry discovered that the reason for not installing the second “Play” disc was due to streaming issues. Installing the “Play” disc left players with delayed texture pop-in issues. Personally I hate running games from the disc nowadays as my Xbox 360 seems way too loud–I’ve become accustomed to the silence of no spinning disc.

Luckily Digital Foundry came through again and has managed to find a workaround for the issue. The team discovered that if you install the game to a USB flash drive instead of your hard drive then the texture issues don’t occur. It’s worth noting that performance will vary depending on the speed of your device, and it’s suggested that you go with a 16GB stick instead of an 8GB variant.

Below you will find a video comparing running the game from the disc and running it from a USB install. You can check out what our very own Josh Harmon thought about GTA V in our review here.
