Netflix today introduced Max, a new program for the PlayStation 3’s Netflix app that recommends content in Siri-esque fashion.

“Max, rumored to be the child of Siri and Hal 9000, asks a few questions about your mood or movie and TV show tastes to arrive at a suggest, of course based on your tastes and taking advantage of the Netflix algorithms that predict what you’d enjoy watching,” Todd Yellin, vice president of product innovation at Netflix, described the service.

By rating a few things on Netflix, Max compiles suggestions tailored to your tastes. He’ll also try to pick suggestions based on your mood, which you indicate by choosing between two stars you enjoy watching.

The program is being developed by Jackbox Games, the creators of You Don’t Know Jack.

If the PS3 version of Max proves successful, Netflix will bring Max to other devices, including the iPad. Check out the video embedded below, in which  senior manager of product innovation Pedro Freitas demoes Max.
