Killer Instinct

Divekick developer Iron Galaxy Studios has been named as the new developer for Killer Instinct, following Double Helix Games’ acquisition by Amazon.

When the news broke that Killer Instinct developer Double Helix Games had been purchased by Amazon Microsoft stated that they already had a new team lined up to take over for season two of the fighting game.

“This is an amazing opportunity to work on a game and a genre we are super passionate about,” Iron Galaxy Studios CEO Dave Lang told Polygon. “Before we were ever talking about this, I was a fan of the game. And to get to now take it over and start with this great base, and expand it and put new stuff on top of it, everyone in the company is super pumped up, and we can’t wait to show people what we’re going to be doing down the road.”

Lang added that Iron Galaxy pitched itself for the Killer Instinct IP back when Microsoft was looking for a developer originally, but were unable to take on the task as it was already working on Wreckateer and didn’t have a big enough team to handle both projects.

Double Helix is currently finishing work on Killer Instinct‘s first season of content which includes the game’s eighth DLC character Fulgore. The character will be released on April 9 alongside a new update for the game that will add the single-player Arcade mode and a spectating feature. The developer has also been working with Iron Galaxy to get them up to speed on the game that runs on the Hex Engine, which Double Helix developed.
