Irrational Nervous About Bioshock Infinite Reception

By

THE BUZZ: Irrational Games has admitted to being nervous every time they show Bioshock Infinite, due to the success of the original.

Speaking in the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK, Irrational studio director of product development, Tim Gerritsen, said he feels that the team has the passion and skills to deliver something that lives up to the Bioshock name.

“BioShock was one of the best-received and best critically reviewed games of the past decade. We definitely feel the pressure of that,” he said. “Every time we show anything to the public, we’re on pins and needles over how it will be received, because we’re that invested into making BioShock Infinite carry the same weight as the original. We feel confident that we have a skilled team and the ability to make that happen.”

EGM’s TAKE: The team really has nothing to worry about. Every showing of Infinite has been met with a mass media buzz claiming that this could be the biggest game of 2012, and it honestly could be. Sure there’s nerves after the failings of Bioshock 2 and it’s better left unmentioned multiplayer, however a change in pace and scenery may just be the pick me up that the team needed to once again deliver something which should safely be in the top games of this year.

“For every success we have, it simply opens up bigger challenges and bigger expectations,” Gerritsen concluded.

Let’s hope they can capitalize on those successes and deliver the blockbuster we’re all hoping for.
