Is David Hayter Worried about His Future as Solid Snake?
Posted on March 6, 2013 AT 12:25pm

In a recent tweet, David Hayter, voice of Metal Gear’s Solid Snake, informally asked fans how they’d feel if he were no longer the gravelly voice of Metal Gear’s main protagonist.
Informal Poll:How would you react if I didn’t play Snake in the next Metal Gear?@hideo_kojima_en@konami

One hour later:
Poll Results:Sad/Angry: 64%No Big Deal: 12%(You’re all dead to me, btw.)Would Not Buy: 24%303 ppl srveyd@hideo_kojima_en @konami

Now, this could be nothing at all. Or it could be a preemptive effort on Hayter’s part to prevent what happened to Michael Ironside and David Bateson in Splinter Cell and Hitman respectively. Ironside passed the Sam Fisher torch to actor Eric Johnson, much to the dismay of many vocal Splinter Cell fans. And when Bateson was almsot dropped as the voice of Agent 47 without so much as a word from IO Interactive, fan backlash drove IO to pull Bateson back onboard.
Point is, there is some merit to Hayter’s move. The fact that he tweeted at Konami and Kojima while conducting this informal poll certainly suggests he wants them to know how important his playing Solid Snake is to fans.
