If trademarks are anything to go by, we might be—finally—getting some new Katamari Damacy games.
As Gematsu spotted, Bandai Namco has registered two new trademarks for Katamari Damacy games. Both trademarks seem to be referring to the same game, but with different names based on country. In Europe, the trademark is for something called Katamari Damacy Reroll, while in Japan, the game name translates to something along the lines of Katamari Damacy Encore.
From the name, it sounds like this game could be some kind of remaster or collection of previous games in the series. While the series has received some mobile games in recent years with Tap My Katamari and the Amazing Katamari Damacy app, it’s been a while since we’ve gotten a proper new Katamari game. The last one to appear on a home console was Katamari Forever, which launched on PlayStation 3 in 2009.
Whether this trademark is for an all-new game, a collection, or a port, at least it’s something—and that’s more than Katamari Damacy fans have had to look forward to for almost a decade.
