Nathan Fillion, an actor long championed as the best choice to play Uncharted’s Nathan Drake on the big screen, seems to have just teased something Uncharted-related for early next week.
A picture of musical performer Drake- seemingly picking his teeth- was recently posted to Fillion’s personal Instagram. One could have missed the connection to the Uncharted series, except that Fillion also tagged the image with the comment “Sic Parvis Magna. 7/16/18.” Uncharted fans don’t need to speak Latin to know this translates to “greatness from small beginnings,” which is a phrase that surfaces several times in the series as the mantra of protagonist Nathan Drake’s idol and alleged ancestor: explorer Sir Francis Drake.
Accompanying this image and comment with the date of July 16th, 2018, should lead any reasonable person to expect some kind of Uncharted-themed announcement on that date.
Despite the ubiquitous calling for Fillion to be brought onto the upcoming Uncharted film, he has never been the official frontrunner, with actor Mark Wahlberg originally pinned for the role, and actor Tom Holland more recently teasing his involvement. In spite of Fillion seemingly having been pushed to the side, it is now looking very possible that he could be announced for the film next week. There is the chance he simply knows of an upcoming announcement about the film and is using the community’s support of him to troll us, but this seems less likely- and far less satisfying. At the very least, it is a safe bet that any upcoming announcement has something to do with the movie and not the game series, as this type of tease seems too obscure for Naughty Dog’s magnus opus.
The Uncharted film does not yet has a release window, but production on the film has allegedly been underway for a while now. In other Uncharted news, an animator for Naughty Dog recently revealed an interesting bit of trivia about Drake’s apparently superhuman resilience to bullets over the course of the games.
