God of War creator David Jaffe has offered his opinion on the recently announced God of War: Ascension.

Jaffe showed nothing but support for Santa Monica’s latest title: “I think it looks cool. It looks like another great, impeccably executed Sony Santa Monica game.”

He also responded to concerns regarding the addition of multiplayer. “I think that anger is well-deserved for people who have felt that way for certain games, but I think so far … Sony Santa Monica … really hasn’t done anything ever to let people down as game developers,” Jaffe said. “If it turns out to be the case that the single-player’s watered down because of it, then I think [fans] have some justification [being upset]. But I don’t see any evidence of that, and I don’t see evidence of that based on the team they are.”

Few know the God of War series better than Jaffe, so if he’s legitimately impressed, that bodes well for the project. The problem comes with winning over the hardcore God of War fans; selling multiplayer to the story-driven, single-player crowd is always going to be tough. But if Santa Monica can pull it off, Ascension has the potential to be the best God of War entry yet.
