If you’re jealous of all of the fancy color options and special editions offered for game hardware in Japan, you may be even more jealous to see the three new 3DS XLs the country will be getting.
Announced during a Japanese Nintendo Direct event last night, those lucky 3DS fans in Japan will have three new XL options to choose from: an all-black version, a special-edition Animal Crossing model, and a special-edition New Super Mario Bros. 2 model (all shown below).
The new black will hit Japan on November 1st, where it’ll both be sold on its own as well as bundled with Monster Hunter Tri 3G. The Animal Crossing 3DS XL then comes out one week later on November 8th (bundled with that new 3DS Animal Crossing), while the New Super Mario Bros. 2-bundled 3DS XL is yet another week later on November 15th.
So, what do I think about the potential for these coming out here in North America? I’d say black is a sure-fire lock at this point, and I’m also pretty confident that NSMB2 XL will also make its way here (maybe as a special Black Friday / holiday bundle like Nintendo did with the limited edition Legend of Zelda 3DS last year). That Animal Crossing version is tougher to call—part of me says no, but I also wouldn’t completely rule it out. Holding one’s breath for it would probably not be advisable, however.
