Shawn Corey Carter, better-known as 14-time Grammy winner and millionaire superstar rap icon Jay-Z, has been announced as an executive producer for NBA 2K13. Showcasing a brief gameplay trailer from the upcoming annual basketball title, Carter’s official website “Life + Times” officially revealed the news earlier today and updated the game’s cover art.
Although it may be odd to the common video game fan, it’s not the first basketball-related conquest for the hip-hop king. Jay-Z is also a minority owner of the Brooklyn Nets, formerly known as as the New Jersey Nets, and does a lot of promotional work for the newly-redesigned basketball club.
From a layman’s view, this could be huge for 2K Sports, as their basketball series is already viewed as the dominant king of the NBA franchise. Jay-Z backing their product should contribute in sales and lots of marketing.
Observe the teaser trailer below (complete with Jay-Z-approved musical atmosphere), and check out the updated cover art while you’re around. NBA 2K13 releases for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation Vita, and PC on October 2nd.
