A job listing on the Epic Games Careers page has revealed the Gears of War developer is working on “an unannounced competitive online action game.”
The listing, which is for a senior systems designer, describes the unannounced title somewhat in the overview portion of the job description. Whatever this online action game Epic is working on may be, it’ll feature “player progression, heavy itemization, and a dynamic economy”—none of which jibes with a next-gen Gears of War, so rule that off the table.
Honestly, those aspects sound very RPG-like to me. Again, it is an action game—the listing specifically states as much—but it seems like it’ll boast RPG elements as well.
There’s no mention of what platform this unannounced title will appear on, but considering the nature of the position—and the fact that Epic unveiled Unreal Engine 4—I think it’s safe to assume it’ll be for either the Xbox One or the PlayStation 4 (if not both). And it’s probably a ways away, considering they’re still hiring for high-level positions on the project.
Epic’s most recent project was Gears of War Judgment, which they developed in collaboration with People Can Fly. The company is also working on a tower defense game called Fornite.
