Just Cause Devs Almost Had a Shot at Making an Open World Star Wars Game

Avalanche Studious, makers of Just Cause and Just Cause 2, almost had a shot at a “massive Star Wars open world game,” one former employee and their current Chief Creative Officer claim.

Former Avalanche studio manager Oskar Burman and current Chief Creative Officer Christofer Sundberg both tweeted yesterday about the project that could’ve been following the news of EA and Disney’s partnership regarding Star Wars video games.

“Actually, wanting to work with SW goes deep in Swe [Sweden],” Burman tweeted. “Long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, we almost got that deal when I was at Avalache.”

Sundberg replied to Burman’s tweet, commenting, “If they had given us the deal back then LucasArts would be alive today. A massive SW open world game! We would have rocked it.”

Burman, who is now general manager at Rovio Stockholm, acted as studio manager for Avalanche between April 2005 and May 2009, so the company the company would have been approached about the project sometime during his stint as studio manager.

I’m not much of a Star Wars fan, but I have to say this sounds like it could’ve been a good fit. Avalanche, if nothing else, makes notably fun games. And nothing they did could be worse than Teras Kasi.
