While we had already guessed it, we now know that Red Dead Redemption 2 will feature its developer’s biggest open-world map ever.
Rockstar Games’ current map record is held by Grand Theft Auto V, whose roughly 130 sq. km map put it within the top 10 biggest open-world maps of all time. From a recent video by PlayStation Access, the official PlayStation UK YouTube channel, we learn that Red Dead Redemption 2‘s map will beat out even this. Around one minute into the video, it is stated that RDR2 has the “largest world Rockstar has ever made.”
The video doesn’t specify the exact size of the world, but anything bigger than GTA V must be massive. The host does explain that the game’s historical limitations and consequent lack of vehicles will make it feel even bigger than it is, when the fastest means by which we will explore it is on horseback, compared to the jets and high-speed cars of GTA V.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is slated to launch October 26th on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It would be hard to pin down how big the game’s map is from its recent gameplay trailer, but at least we can see some of what we’ll be doing within it.
