Barring that this isn’t another of Kojima’s elaborate hoaxes, Keifer Sutherland has been announced as the new voice of Snake in Metal Gear Solid 5.
The announcement came during Konami’s pre-E3 press briefing lifestream this morning. According to series creator/raving lunatic Hideo Kojima, because MGS5 is set in 1984, when Snake is 49 years old, they needed a voice actor who could really sell a late-40s character. Hence: Keifer Sutherland.
Kojima also revealed that one of the themes MGS5 will tackle is “race.” Expect Kojima’s usual brand of subtlety.
Speculation that Sutherland was somehow involved with the next Metal Gear Solid game first cropped up during the MGS5 presentation at this year’s GDC, after a very Sutherland-sounding voice was heard. The actor is perhaps best known for playing Jack Bauer in Fox TV series 24.
It’s worth noting that some on the EGM staff—myself included—do believe this “announcement” is another of Kojima’s hoaxes.
