Kid Icarus: Uprising Studio Shuttered
Posted on July 11, 2012 AT 04:40pm
A statement on Kid Icarus: Uprising developer Project Sora’s website has revealed that the studio closed its doors late last month.
“The company was dissolved as of June 30, 2012,” the posting reads, before thanking fans for their support and announcing that the site would be taken offline at the end of the month.
There’s no word as to why the studio was closed, but Uprising, the developer’s first and only title, met with critical acclaim and solid sales numbers when it launched in March.
Project Sora was founded in 2009 as a joint venture between Masahiro Sakurai and Nintendo, with the publisher holding a 72 percent stake in the company.
Sakurai’s other development house, Sora Ltd., was apparently not affected by the closure. That studio is currently working with Namco to develop a new Smash Bros. title for the Wii U and 3DS.
