THE BUZZ: Interested in playing Killzone 3‘s multiplayer, but not really concerned with the game’s single-player mode? Sony has a unique offer for.
EGM’s TAKE: This is a very, very interesting announcement—and one that I’m personally glad to see.
According to the latest episode of the PlayStation Blogcast (as reported by Wario64 over on NeoGAF), it was announced that the multiplayer portion of Killzone 3 will be coming as a self-contained downloaded via PSN. For $14.99, you’ll unlock that full multiplayer mode of the Killzone 3 retail release.
For a long time now, I’ve really wanted to see something like this happen. I can think of a number of of games I’ve purchased where I absolutely loved the multiplayer aspects of the game, but had little to no interest in their single-player portion. If I could get that multiplayer on its own for a cheaper price—I’m down for that!
Of course, you do run the risk of potentially missing out on a very awesome single-player experience—so I can understand if there’s hesitation to do this more often. Still, the fact that it’s even being tried is pretty cool to me. Plus, selling the multiplayer separately could get more people to play that mode—and thus help its community stay large and active.
What do you think? Do you like the idea of selling a game’s multiplayer mode as a separate, cheaper release?
