Sony has revealed that post-launch firmware updates for the PlayStation 4 could help integrate the console better with the PlayStation Camera.
Sony Computer Entertainment Japan exec Masayasu Ito explained in a roundtable interview at the Tokyo Game Show that possible future Camera features include Kinect-style gesture-based user-interface navigation. “But it could go deeper,” Ito added, refusing to elaborate further.
The platform holder revealed yesterday that users will be able to use the PlayStation Camera’s face-scanning technology to log in to their PlayStation Network profiles. Ito also added that users will be able to launch applications using their voice. Both of these features are expected to be in place at launch.
The PlayStation Camera is an optional purchase and will not be included in the PlayStation 4 base bundle. PlayStation 4 is set to launch November 15 in North America and November 29 in Europe.
