Kingdom Hearts

While it’s been known for a few years that a Big Hero 6 world would be included in Kingdom Hearts III, Square Enix has finally provided a sneak peek of the superhero action players will experience.

To ring in this year’s Tokyo Game Show, the developer debuted a new trailer featuring the Disney-inspired world of San Fransokyo. In the footage, which you can check out below, Sora, Donald, and Goofy meet Baymax and Hiro while on a mission and ultimately decide to team up to defeat an unknown enemy.

The highlight is definitely the short glimpse at Nano Arms, Sora’s new Keyblade transformation. In one phase, the Keyblade becomes a glider for Sora, giving him a little air to then unload powerful hammer attacks on Heartless. The shotlock for the Keyblade seems to send out waves of microbots, the transformative technology Hiro created in Big Hero 6.

The trailer also gives an early look at the upcoming game’s Gummi ship system. A few custom ships are shown off, such as the Moogle, and the standard Gummi ship flies around a few different asteroid-filled areas. As series director Tetsuya Nomura previously teased, Kingdom Hearts III‘s Gummi ship missions will offer more exploration opportunities than the previous entries, as well as an advancement on the ship creation process.

In a final tease, several villains from the series appear, including Vanitas, Xehanort’s Heartless, Briag, Luxord, Young Xehanort, Larxene, Xemnas, and a Xehanort-controlled Aqua. Players can even see a new form of lesser Nobody that wield scythes.

Kingdom Hearts III is still a few months away from launch, which should give players unfamiliar with the series a chance to catch up on the long story. For those that just want to jump into the next installment blind, though, Nomura has said that the game will include “several elements” to help newcomers understand the the series’ plot.

Kingdom Hearts III will launch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 29th, 2019.
