The long wait for Kingdom Hearts III may have paid off, at least for Square Enix’s sales department. Fans eager to get their hands on the third numbered title in the series have made the game the fastest-selling entry in Kingdom Hearts history.

According to a press release from Square Enix, Kingdom Hearts III has already sold over 5 million copies since it released on January 29th. That number counts up one week of worldwide sales and about a week and a half of sales in Japan (where the game released a few days earlier), and includes both physical and digital copies sold.

“We’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who’s joined the journey so far, and we hope you’re loving every minute of it!” Square Enix wrote on Twitter.

According to some additional statistics in the press release, the Kingdom Hearts series as a whole has sold about 25 million games. However, those 25 million sales aren’t split across just the three numbered games, but across the near-dozen titles in the series. Proportionally, then, Kingdom Hearts III must have already achieved a significantly larger chunk of sales than most of the games already out. As sales continue past the first week, that number can only grow.

Kingdom Hearts III is out now on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. For more on the game, check out our review.
