The latest Nintendo Direct Mini involved a highlight of Kirby Star Allies, with an official release date announcement and the debut of several new abilities.
Kirby Star Allies will launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on March 16th. This will be Kirby’s first game on the new platform, and players will be able to enjoy the experience in 4-player cooperative play.
In addition to the release date, fans learned about a number of new copy abilities they can wield in the game. The Artist Ability allows Kirby to bring his artwork to life and have it do his bidding, while the Spider Ability traps his targets in an entanglement of webbing. The Direct also announced new Friend Abilities, allowing players to combine abilities with their teammates to create brand new actions, such as combining the Water ability and Ice ability to create the Icicle Lance ability.
Friendship is more than a means of just beating enemies into submission in Kirby Star Allies. The game’s new Friend Heart item can be used to invite friends into a party, but it has another effect of turning enemies into allies.
In other Kirby news, the Nintendo Direct also announced a Kirby: Battle Royale demo, now available in the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo 3DS. Battle Royale will release for the handheld on January 19th.
