Kojima Explains Mogren Stunt, Confirms Hayter No Longer Snake

Posted on March 31, 2013 AT 11:43am

Speaking to GameTrailers, Hideo Kojima explained his reasoning behind the Joakim Mogren/Moby Dick Studio stunt and confirmed that David Hayter would not be voicing Snake in the upcoming MGS titles.

“We found a Swedish guy to stand in,” said Kojima, referring to Moby Dick Studio head Joakim Mogren, putting an end to speculation whether Keighly interviewed a CG construct.

As for why Kojima even tried to pull a fast one on us with Mogren, the eccentric developer said, “We wanted to do something to really energize the community.”

Kojima claims to have known full well just how quickly gamers would suss out the truth.

As for Hayter’s absence? “What we’re trying to accomplish here is to recreate the Metal Gear Series,” said Kojima. “It’s a new type of Metal Gear game, and we want to have this reflected in the voice actor as well.”

Hayter made a last-ditch effort to rally fans in his support via Twitter a few weeks ago, but it seems his unofficial poll fell on deaf ears. Perhaps fan backlash will put Hayter once more in the recording booth voicing snake. That worked for Hitman.

Provided he isn’t already soured by the whole ordeal.

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain were revealed during GDC to be two separate titles, the former a prologue to the latter, that together form the overall MGS5 narrative. The Phantom Pain has been confirmed for Xbox 360 and PS3. No word yet on Ground Zeroes platforms, nor a release date for either.
