Kojima: Ground Zeroes is about ‘play time’ not ‘clear time’

Posted on February 6, 2014 AT 05:04am

Following a report by Game Informer revealing that Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes took around two hours to complete, series creator Hideo Kojima has stated that the game’s length will vary depending on how players approach the new non-linear format.

MGSV Ground Zeros includes the main mission alongside 5 Side Ops. All missions include elements such as ‘Trial Records,’ where players can compete against each other online,” Kojima wrote on Twitter. “This is not a linear game like in the past. GZ offers freedom of approach and play style, which we hope players will enjoy over and over without boring.

“I believe people will be studied with the ‘Play Time’ of GZ and will not stress the ‘Clear Time,’ which is a standard for linear games.”

Ground Zeroes is a standalone prologue to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain that was designed to give fans something to play while they wait for the main game. The game tasks Big Boss with infiltrating Camp Omega to rescue Paz and Chico, two characters that were involved in the events of Peace Walker.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is set to release March 18 in North America and March 20 in Europe for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.
